A Mini Escape to Chania, Crete

Sometimes all you need is a few days away to reset — and that’s exactly what our little getaway to Chania, Crete did for me. Four days of sunshine, sea breeze, and just the right amount of inspiration.

Brief History

Chania has such a rich history — it dates all the way back to the Minoan era and has seen the influence of many cultures over the centuries, including the Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Venetians, and Ottomans. The Venetians, in particular, left a big mark on the city with their stunning architecture, especially around the Old Town and the harbor. Later, after Ottoman rule, Chania even became the capital of the Cretan State before finally becoming part of Greece in 1913.

Beachside Bliss

My husband and I stayed at a lovely hotel right on the beach — the kind where you can walk barefoot from your room straight onto the sand. Mornings were slow and peaceful, with coffee on the terrace and that soft salty air that instantly makes you feel calm. I lived in cotton dresses keeping things simple and breathable. There’s something about natural fabrics that just works when the weather is warm.

Wandering Through the Old Town

Chania’s old town is like stepping into a postcard — colorful buildings, narrow lanes, and flowers spilling over balconies. I threw on a black and white striped top and the Lola Midi skirt, love mixing prints, and accessorized with a neutral coloured bucket bag and comfortable slides for walking around town. We spent hours exploring tiny shops and hidden cafés.

Evenings on the Harbor

My favorite part of the trip was spending evenings at the harbor, sitting by the water with drinks, watching the sunset and the lighthouse light up. The air got cooler at night, so I took a cardigan with me to keep warm. It was a peaceful moment when the sky turned pink and gold, and everything slowed down.

What I Wore

I packed light this time — just a few easy pieces that worked day to night:

  • The Lola Midi skirt (add a t-shirt or a collared shirt for effortless style)
  • The Kacie Jacket (great to throw on a black dress)
  • The Cassie dress (quick and easy to wear to breakfast)
  • The Zadie Reversible Bag (carry all your essentials with a choice of 2 prints)

What to Pack for Chania in October

If you’re visiting Crete at the end of the season, you’re in for a treat — the crowds have thinned, the weather is still warm during the day (around 23–25°C), but evenings can get cool. Here’s what I’d suggest packing:

1. Light layers:
Think of our Cotton T paired with the Lola midi skirt, add a cardigan that you can layer as the temperature drops in the evenings.

2. Easy dresses:
Our Cotton Boho collection featuring block-print dresses work perfectly for daytime exploring — pair them with flat sandals or espadrilles.

3. A light jacket:
Throw on our Kacie jacket over a black dress, it is ideal for those cooler nights by the harbor.

4. Natural fabrics:
Stick to cotton— it is a breatheable fabric that keeps you comfortable in cool and warm weather.

5. Accessories:
Bring the reversible Zadie bag that’s practical but still chic.

6. Footwear:
Comfortable sandals for the day and maybe a pair of closed flats for evenings.

October in Chania feels like the perfect mix of summer and autumn — the sun still shines, but there’s a soft golden tone to everything. The kind of weather that makes you want to stroll, explore, and, of course, dress beautifully while you do it.
